There are many different reasons to buy silver bullion, including the facts that it makes a great, safe investment over time and that it gives you a way to invest in something tangible and inherently valuable. However, once you buy silver bullion, you’ll have to decide how to store it. There are a few options available to you, each with its own pros and cons. Here are three different ways that you can store silver bullion.

One of the more popular ways to store silver bullion is to keep it on hand in your home. If you do choose this route, then you have the advantage of ultimate portability and liquidity, although silver that is in smaller bullion blocks will be much more portable than large, heavy blocks of silver. On the other hand, if you want to insure your silver against theft or fire, you may not be able to do so if it’s simply in your home. Installing a safe may be one way to get a bank to insure the bullion, but it may still be difficult, since you’re unlikely to have the same amount of security as a bank or precious metals vault.

The second option is to store your bullion in a precious metals vault.Through this process, you would basically buy the bullion from a vault, where it would stay. Although this leaves your bullion a little less liquid, most modern vaults will give you an online account where you can buy and sell silver in real time. Also, your silver will be secure here, since the vault will take care of insurance and security. The problem with this, though, is that you’ll have to pay a monthly fee for insurance and security, so it’s a good idea to check around with several vaults before you decide which one to buy from.

The third option puts you somewhere between the middle two. Most large bank locations have big vaults, and some of them have vaults used especially for storing precious metals. You can pay insurance and security fees to a bank in order to store your bullion with them. You can either rent a safety deposit box or, if you have a large supply of silver bullion, a larger area of the vault. Again, you’ll want to check around with several different banks before you decide whether or not to go this route.
